  • This course teaches the development of writing as a process of working out one’s thoughts and communicating those thoughts effectively. Students write a variety of essays giving attention to stages of generating, drafting and revising. Selected grammar and common errors are reviewed, along with the basic essay structure. Vocabulary work is used to increase student’s power of communication and style devices used by professional writers are identified to help student improve his/her own style.

  • American Literature is a survey of prose and poetry from pre-Colonial times to the middle of the twentieth century.
  • This course includes reading and discussion of selected writings from Anglo-Saxon to the Twentieth Century, with emphasis on major literary characteristics, historical periods, and predominant ideas.
